Day 1

Our goal today was to leave the house at 5:30am. Well, that was a laughty (as in, it's hilarious) goal. While we got up at 4:30, we each still had a bunch of last minute packing and getting ready to do.

After all was said and done, we were "on the road again" at 6:45. Had a very smooth departure from Phoenix.

Our next objective of the day (OOD) was to drive from Phx to Amarillo, TX. We got as far as Tucumcari, NM. Cute and quaint little town. So tomorrow we will make up the lost time.
While Malcolm was taking care of various things at a pit stop in Gallup, NM, Beth had a VERY delightful conversation with a Navajo woman in the truck parked next to us. She talked about her children, gave me her recipe for making green chili sauce (and I can't wait to try it on some enchiladas), etc. She actually lives on the Continential Divide!! Said it snows like crazy in the winter. I was very surprised as we came across AZ and NM how green the grasses of the land were. It was beautiful. :-)

Our biggest concern of the day (COD) was whether or not the rooftop carrier would stay put. Well, we are very pleased to annouce that with Malcolm's expert tying abilities, it stayed on AND STAYED put. The Picture of the Day (POD) represents our arrival in Tucumcari with the carrier in tact. Yeah!!!

Malcolm would like to say this: We are grateful for a safe, marvelous, magic day. We had a mighty tasty New Mexican dinner. More to.come.(cary).

  2. So glad you enjoyed your overnight in Tucumcari! I'll have to pass your "quaint" remark on to my family since we lived there for a couple years when I was a kid. My brother, Dave, was born in Tucumcari and I went to 1st grade there too. Anyway, it'll be fun to follow your blog. Happy trails!

    Love, S & C
