Day 3
We left Joplin, MO at 6:45am MO time (4:45am AZ time).
If you ever need a hotel in Joplin, be sure to stay at La Quinta. (1-800-SLEEPLQ) The bed was wonderfully comfortable, the shower was very nice and the breakfast was fantastic. You can't go wrong!!
Just outside of Joplin we passed a turtle (still alive) on the side of road. Be safe little slow one.
We actually made our destination today - Wheaton, IL - at the home of Azeem, Irum and Humza. Azeem is Malcolm's son (one of the triplets). Here in Wheaton they are having what used to be called "The Cream of Wheaton." Due to funding shortages and political matters, it is now called Wheaton Days or something like that. Downtown is only 7 blocks away - and so is the band!! I have to admit they are playing some good songs, as it rains, and as a tornado warning is out in another part of outer Chicago area.
The POD was decided by Malcolm and is the one of me indicating where the Mississippi and Missouri rivers converge outside of St. Louis, MO. It is quite a sight. Many of the pics today are from that spot. Also the description of their expedition. And a map of the area. Very interesting. We were standing in the exact spot where they launched 200 years ago! The pic of the piece of whale was also taken in the Mississippi. Bet you didn't know whales migrated in the rivers too!!
Correction from yesterday - My brother drove by the cross in REALITY when he and a friend were on a similar trek.
Thank you for your comments! :-) Thanks for following our journey. Tomorrow we take a train into the city. But for now I must sleep.
Love to all,
Beth
